How
Monitoring Work
Alarm
signals can be communicated using one or more different
techniques. The most common way to transmit alarm signals
is over regular telephone lines with a digital communicator,
a device that is commonly built into your alarm panel.
When
your system acknowledges an alarm signal, the digital communicator
seizes control of the telephone line and electronically
dials one or more preprogrammed telephone numbers to reach
the central station.
When
a connection is made with the central station, the digital
communicator uses digital codes to report the alarm or
other signal to an electronic receiver at the central station.
Alarm
types-burglary, fire or perhaps a mechanical alarm such
as a broken water pump-are displayed on an operator's computer
monitor. The operator then takes appropriate action and
calls you, a person you designate and/or authorities, depending
on the arrangement you have with your security company.
There
are other ways to send alarm signals. These include long-range
radio and the cellular telephone network. Both methods
use radio signals to transmit alarm signals.
